About this work

This portrait depicts the artist Margaret Reade née Tennant Ware (1916-2004). The painting by Anthony Devas ARA RP (1911-58) was commissioned for use in Rowntree & Co. Ltd Aero chocolate advertising. It was published in the Daily Herald in May 1951 as part of the national Aero Girls campaign devised by advertising agency JWT.
